Shosen Book Tower Ranks Top 10 Best Selling Light Novels of 2016


 

Shosen Book Tower, an Akihabara-based book store that caters to fans of anime and manga, has published their annual list of best-selling light novels. Based on their sales data from December 01, 2015 – November 30, 2016, according to Shosen the top 10 best selling light novels of 2016 are as follows:

 

 

10.) Regarding Reincarnated to Slime, written by Fuse and illustrated by Mitz Vah.

 

 

09.) Honzuki no Gekokujou (“Booklover’s Takeover”), written by Miya Kazuki and illustrated by You Shiina.

 

 

08.) Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? On the Side: Sword Oratoriawritten by Fujino Ōmori and illustrated by Kiyotaka Haimura.

 

 

07.) GATE, written by Takumi Yanai and illustrated by Kurojishi.

 

 

06.) The Irregular at Magic High School, written by Tsutomu Satou and illustrated by Kana Ishida.

 

 

05.) Overlord, written by Kugane Maruyama and illustrated by so-bin.

As the Mainichi Shimbun notes in the original article, 8 out of the top 10 light novels on the list have a TV anime adaptation, while 9 out of the top 10 initially began their publication as web-novels. Other noted similarities among the top 10 include characters being transported to or reincarnating into fantasty worlds (KONOSUBA, Grimgar, Gate, etc.) and protagonists with extreme power levels (Sword Art Online, Overlord).
