Hideki Kamiya’s “Scalebound” Game Has Been Cancelled

Earlier today Kotaku posted a rumor regarding the development hell that Platinum Games and Hideki Kamiya’s Scalebound has been in for a while. According to multiple sources, the outspoken Devil May Cry and Bayonetta director’s latest and largest work had been running into trouble, straining the relationship between the studio and Microsoft. Scalebound‘s cancellation has since become official. 


At the time of the rumor, Microsoft said they would have more to share soon, and it only took a few hours for that to materialize. Here’s their brief confirmation that Scalebound is no longer in the works.


After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for “Scalebound.” We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including “Halo Wars 2,” “Crackdown 3,” “State of Decay 2,” “Sea of Thieves” and other great experiences.


That explains why we haven’t heard or seen much of the game in a while. Here’s some of the most recent footage for anyone who needs a refresher:
