Doraemon Promotes New Movie Set in Antarctica by Literally Going to Antarctica

So when we said earlier that Doraemon, Nobita, and all their friends would be going to Antarctica, we meant in their new movie: Great Adventure in the Antarctic Kachi Kochi. But as it turns out, the two leads have literally gone to the southernmost continent!

The two mascot characters started out their promotional tour on December 26 with a stop in Argentina, where Doraemon has been broadcast for many years and is extremely popular with both children and adults. Doraemon and Nobita appeared at an embassy-sponsored event where they met and danced with local children, then took off from Ushaia — the southernmost city in the world — two days later.

They greeted 2017 in Antarctica, where they’ve been doing photo-ops and filming for an upcoming special, “The Antarctic Adventure Quiz.” Whie at the bottom of the world, Doraemon and Nobita will attempt to answer questions sent to them by young viewers, such as “Do people live in Antarctica?” and “Do penguins slide faster than they run or vice-versa?” Video messages from the “Antarctic Kachi Kochi Corps” — consisting of champion figure skaters Nobuniara Oda and Mai Asada — were also recorded for the occasion.

The special, which will also include animated sequences, will air on January 27.

Doraemon the Movie 2017: Great Adventure in the Antarctic Kachi Kochi premieres in Japan on March 4.
