It has been confirmed that Warner Brothers Home Entertainment will release a Blu-ray box set of Sunrise’s classic robot anime in the mid-1980s, Kikoukai Galient/Panzer World Galient, in Japan on May 10, 2017. It was the third TV robot anime series directed by Ryosuke Takahashi for Sunrise, following Fang of the Sun Dougram (1981-1983) and Armored Trooper Votoms (1983-1984), and has been considered as one of the earliest fantasy and robot combined anime series, along with Yoshiyuki Tomino’s Seisenshi Dunbine/Aura Battler Dunbine (1983-1984).
Galient was aired for 25 episodes in Japan from October 1984 to March 1985. It was originally planned to be produced as a 50-episode series, but due to poor sales of the plamodels released by Takara, it was cut down to half. In 1986, three-volume OVA series were released. Its first two volumes, “Chapter of the Land” and “Chapter of the Sky” were compilations of the TV anime story, and its third volume “Crest of Iron” included a 50-minute newly-produced episode set in an alternative world featuring different
character settings with the same names with the TV series. In addition to the TV anime’s 25 episodes,
the Blu-ray box will also contain the three OVAs. The retails price of the five-disc set in Japan is 34,560
yen (about 300 US dollars).
