“Krampus” Director Michael Dougherty Takes the Helm for “Godzilla: King of Monsters”


Variety is reporting that director / screenwriter Michael Dougherty (KrampusTrick ‘r Treat) has been hired to direct Godzilla: King of Monsters, the sequel to the 2014 Godzilla film directed by Gareth Edwards and produced by Legendary Pictures.

 

 

Dougherty began working on the Godzilla: King of Monsters in the role of a screenwriter alongside Zach Shields, the co-writer of Krampus. As soon as this news broke in October of 2016, rumors began to surface that Dougherty might also sign on as the director of the film.

 

 

Now it’s official, and it will be interesting to see what Dougherty – who has also done script work on such films as X2, Superman Returns, and X-men: Apocalypse – will bring to the franchise.

 

 

Godzilla: King of Monsters is produced by Legendary Pictures and will be distributed by Warner Bros.. The film is currently in production, with an scheduled release date of March 22, 2019.
