Osomatsu-san ended up becoming one of the most popular anime of 2015 and 2016, and fans were excited about its return (albeit brief) for a special Japan Racing Association crossover. But after the special aired on December 12, viewers caught sight of something that they believe may hint at a return for the popular series.
End card illustrations are commonplace in anime, but it’s the comment at the bottom right that caught people’s attention: See you again someday!! Several fans believe that this could be a hint that Osomatsu-san season 2 is on the horizon.
While this is certainly possible, it’s important to remember that a lot of series — especially series based on properties that are still running in manga or light novel form — often have a message like this at the end of their last episode. Sometimes it turns out to be a sign of a return, but other times it’s more of a wistful, open-ended goodbye.
The JRA crossover special showed that there is certainly space for Osomatsu-san specials for holidays, special events, or collaborations. But taking it as a solid foreshadowing of a second season might be jumping the gun a bit. If it’s true, of course, we’ll be here to let everyone know.
