60-Hour Binge-Watch Makes A “Game Of Thrones” Fanatic Out Of “Attack On Titan” Author

Attack on Titan author Hajime Isayama has an interesting list of media inspirations. Visual novel series Muv-Luv, definitely. Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. The Frank Darabont adaptation of Stephen King’s The Mist. Actually, less zombie material than you might imagine. He’s played Resident Evil, but not seen the Romero movies. Now add to that Game of Thrones. Stated on his blog, Game of Thrones, the HBO adaptations of GRR Martin’s novels, is going to be an influence as AoT moves into its final phase.

In mid-November, Isayama started watching Game of Thrones: Seven Kingdoms Senki. 60 hours and six seasons later, he left the whole thing dead on the battlefield.  He seems to like just about everything about the show, from its plotting and casting, to the production’s budget and ability create a fully realized Dark Ages world, to its ability to humanize even the detestable characters, going into this thoughts on Joffrey and Theon a bit.

He highly recommends the show and suggests that it might shape his own work in some way.

And, he shared illustrations of Davos Seaworth and Jorah Mormont.

Looking for chapter 88 of the Attack on Titan manga, coming soon.

“Fairy Tail” Author Hiro Mashima Already Blasted Through “Final Fantasy XV”

Now that Final Fantasy XV is out for the general public, have you had a chance to play through the whole thing? If not, maybe you need to take some time off, because that’s exactly what Fairy Tail author Hiro Mashima did. The results? Well, he beat the game in a marathon 36-hour session.

Mashima tweeted his excitement for the release four hours prior to launch. Here’s what he had to say, courtesy of Otaku USA’s translation:

“FF15 comes out in four hours! I’m going to take tomorrow off. Being your own boss is great!

He returned a little while later to say, ““I beat FF15! Being able to hear a lot of classic FF songs made me happy. I wonder if they’ll update it so you can listen to music while riding a Chocobo too.”

“Getter Robo High” Will School You with Mahjong and Getter Rays

Move over, Saki, because there’s a new mahjong champ in town — and she’s got a giant robot on her side.

Getter Robot High (“Getter Robo Pai,” or “Getter Robo Tile,” in Japanese) is an upcoming manga project that promises to combine the worlds of Getter Robo and high school mahjong. How? We’re not entire sure yet. All we have to go on visually is the hot-blooded young woman in this image, who looks about ready to rocket punch a tile across the table.

The announcement appeared in the January 1 issue of Kindai Mahjong magazine, which was released today. Kindai Mahjong is a semi-monthly manga anthology that, unsurprisingly, runs solely mahjong-related manga (including, notably, The Legend of Koizumi and a mahjong-centric spinoff of Higurashi When They Cry).

Information on the spinoff manga is limited. The announcement gave us this: “Getter Rays!? The Empire of Atlantis!? High Beasts!? All of these mysteries will be unraveled through majhong!!!!!!!”

There have been several retellings of Go Nagai and Ken Ishikawa’s Getter Robo series, but this appears to be going into completely new territory.

Find out the secret of Getter Rays and who knows what else when Getter Robo High premieres in the January 15 issue of Kinda Mahjong, available December 15.

“Fullmetal Alchemist” Live-Action Film Confirms December 2017 Release

The official website for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa’s Hagane no Renkinjutsushi/Fullmetal Alchemist manga today confirmed it will be released in Japan in December 2017 and the actual costume of Roy Mustang will be displayed for the first time at the Tokyo Comic Convention 2016 event to be held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture this weekend. You can check his costume at the booth of Warner Brothers Japan, but his iconic white gloves will not be included in the display for some yet explained reason.

In the Fumihiko Sori (Tomorrow’s Joe)-directed film, the Flame Alchemist is played by 36-year-old Japanese actor Dean Fujioka (Ninja The Monster). “I am so happy to know about the costume display at Tokyo ComiCon. By seeing Roy Mustang’s costume that is literally stained with blood and sweat, it would be great if you could feel all the team members’ passion for the film production and the world view of the film,” he said on the film’s official website and Twitter.
